Looking back over the past year, I find myself asking two simple but powerful questions: How did I get here, and how did I do? These questions have guided me through moments of doubt and celebration alike. This reflection is not just about marking time but understanding the steps, decisions, and experiences that shaped my growth and achievements. Sharing this journey may help others see the value in pausing to review their own paths.

Starting Point: Where It All Began
Every journey has a beginning, and mine started with a clear sense of purpose mixed with uncertainty. Prior to starting this business, I had put together a hobby that kept me challenged and focused, two things that I noticed were lacking in my professional career at the time. But when the time came to actually put this hobby to a business, I found it very easy to become overwhelmed. There are so many steps to creating a business and every little decision has a huge impact on the future. Suddenly, my carefree hobby required decisions that were permanent once they were made now that it was to be a business.
I remember the first few months as a time of trial and error. Some efforts didn’t pan out as expected, but each setback taught me something valuable. For example, I tried to build everything myself and didn't ask for help which was a lesson I disparately needed to learn and this project quickly made me see it. Instead of giving up, I enlisted those close to me who were already itching to get put in the game and were just waiting to be asked. Swallowing my pride and asking for help showed me just how much support I had. My inner circle had already created ideas and were in the wings waiting to jump in and help me make this a success. That helped me gain confidence and eventually find that asking for help wasn't so tough after all.
Key Milestones and Achievements
Reflecting on the year, several milestones stand out as markers of progress:
Skill Development
I was able to start making strides in content development and in application. Though practice and repetition, i could start seeing huge advances in the professional look that my designs had. What started looking sloppy and mismatched quickly became pieces I was proud of.
Event Successes
Events and setup were new to me. I spent the first few months visiting festivals and craft shows to see how everyone else was doing it. That small purposeful move allowed me to not only see what successful booths and vendors looked like, but it also allowed me to see that quality was going to be important if I wanted to stand out. My first event netted the cost of my booth. At the end of this first year of operation, I can safely say that I increased the net sales by 65 times!
Personal Growth
Beyond professional achievements, I focused on building resilience. I practiced mindfulness and time management techniques that helped me stay balanced during stressful periods. I also had to learn just how important it was to sit and create a schedule. My business built to help me spend more time taking care of me was quickly ruling my time and I had to make sure I didn't let it continue that way.
Each of these milestones was the result of consistent effort and a willingness to adapt. For instance, when the project faced unexpected challenges, I found that immediately stepping back and looking at the steps helped me identify the remedy faster. So often in life, I found my ego getting in the way of my results and that most certainly couldn't happen here.

Lessons Learned Along the Way
The journey was not without its lessons. Some of the most important insights came from moments of difficulty:
Embrace Imperfection
Trying to be perfect slowed me down at times. Learning to accept mistakes as part of growth allowed me to move forward faster and with less stress.
Seek Feedback Actively
Asking for feedback helped me see blind spots and improve. It also built stronger connections with friends and family which was one of the goals taking this new direction in life.
Prioritize Well-being
I realized that productivity is closely linked to health. Taking breaks, exercising, and getting enough rest made a noticeable difference in my energy and focus.
SLOW DOWN
Sometimes I wanted to get things done so quickly that I didn't take the time to really inspect everything thoroughly. I suddenly found myself locked in with areas of the business that weren't quite as compatible as i had thought and costly to make changes in.
These lessons shaped how I approached challenges and opportunities. They also reminded me that growth is a continuous process, not a destination.
Looking Ahead: Building on This Foundation
Reflecting on how I got here shows that progress comes from small, consistent actions combined with reflection and adjustment. Moving forward, I plan to:
Set clearer goals with measurable outcomes
Continue learning new skills relevant to my evolving interests
Maintain habits that support mental and physical health
Foster relationships that encourage mutual growth and support
This review is a reminder that every step counts, even those that feel slow or uncertain. By looking back, I gain clarity on what works and what needs change. And learning to embrace that change until your mess looks like an organized success and the response of your customers is hard to ignore when it's paying the dividend of your hard work.
